OUR STORY

IMG_3369.jpg

On August 31, 1922 a group of former T Anchor Ranch hands met with their families for a barbecue and reunion at Sulphur Springs Park roughly two miles east of Hereford, TX on the Tierra Blanca Creek. The meal was prepared by the former T Anchor cook, Gus Lee, and it was enjoyed by so many in the group that they decided to make it an annual occurrence.

Originally called the "T Anchor Roundup" (changed to "Western Cowpunchers Association" in 1941) the gatherings were held at the former T Anchor Ranch and the Amarillo Fairgrounds until 1946 when Amos McBride donated 10 acres of land north of Amarillo for a dance hall to be built.

Since the building of this dance hall, the Association has evolved from a gathering of former ranch hands to a gathering of any and all people who share the common goal of the preservation of western music and the western lifestyle.
